Burlesque & Boudoir Shoot: The Boys Are Back

Coming or going, these fellas looked fantastic!

This week I was lucky enough to take part in a group shoot/workshop in Brighton called The Burlesque and Boudoir Shoot at the Proud Brighton Ballroom.  I love Brighton and wish we lived a bit closer as I find the area so inspiring.

This shoot, organised by Melissa Love and The Tea Set‘s Hannah Best, was especially fun and gave us the opportunity to work alongside Tigz Rice (Renowned Burlesque Photographer) and shoot some amazing models, both male and female.

Throughout the afternoon, we had the chance to shoot three different scenes, and were broken up into groups to attack each scene and so that each of us had the chance to lead the shoot and set up shots.  There were lots of challenges that we faced.

First, there was the fact that you are in a group of other strong, creative people who all wanted their moments to shine, and were also quite reluctant to give up the power to anyone else (especially when it came to directing the models in our first few sessions.)  Having said that, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it could have been.

The challenge that I found the most enlightening though, was the lighting situations that we were faced with.  We had the full gamut from full on Brighton sunlight to open shade, and from a one light to a three light off camera flash setup.  Much of the work that I have done thus far has been with natural light and or a single on or off camera speedlight flash.  It was great to step out of my comfort zone and have a chance to use some pretty amazing lights (provided by The Flash Centre) to create some beautiful images.

Our group, led by mentor Dade Freeman, started out with the group of 20 something men, dressed to the nines and ready for a night out on the town.

Looking quite dapper.

“Ok, now pretend that you’re actually friends.”  These guys did a great job.

It’s all Fun and Games, really!

You can see the full photos in the gallery on my Facebook page.  Please check it out and don’t forget to ‘Like’ the page too!  Thanks.

Next up, we’ll take a look at our lovely couple Matt and Meredith.  Matt is actually a photographer and Meredith was just beautiful and this combination made for some fab photos.  Please check back for this next post! (the second of 3)

Thanks for stopping by and feel free to leave a comment!!
